The different hip hop classes that Mo Holland Dance Studio offers

Kid’s Hip Hop (Ages 6-9)

Kid’s Hip Hop is a beginning introductory hip hop class for ages 6 to 9. Students will learn basic hip hop styles and steps (i.e. shuffling, tutting, housing, glides, etc.) as well as basic rhythm exercises and choreographies to hone their musicality. Students will also learn popular dance steps in today’s culture. Since hip hop is not as rigid in technique as ballet, students learn to adapt to freely moving in a safe manner. In the fall semester, students will participate in small exercise “workshops” to learn different sets and series of movements such as footwork and tutting sets which can be used in a free-style session at the end of class if they so choose, or to create their own series of sets based on what they have learned in class. Students will also engage in learning choreography that applies the different moves and styles they have been taught. In the spring semester, focus is given to learning choreography which will be performed at a recital at the end of the semester.
