Contemporary Classes

The different contemporary classes that Mo Holland Dance Studio offers

Contemporary

Contemporary is a class for students ages 10 and up. Students in this class will learn to express themselves through dance, combining several dance genres not limited to: modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. There is a focus given to classic ballet technique, but there is an emphasis on versatility and improvisation. Compared to the rigid and “strict” nature of classical ballet technique, contemporary is a fluid dance genre. It’s a very emotionally connnected genre, so students will be practicing emoting their feelings through their movements. In the fall semester, students will learn choreography and do across-the-floor exercises to strengthen their technique. In the spring semester, students will use the prior semester’s knowledge to learn choreography for the recital presented at the end of the semester.
