Jazz Classes

The different jazz classes offered at Mo Holland Dance Studio

Introductory Jazz

Introductory Jazz is a beginning jazz class for ages 6 to 8 years old. Students will learn basic jazz steps (i.e. jazz square) as well as strengthening and stretching techniques. Students will participate in basic choreography and basic tumbling. Students with basic ballet foundations will continue to solidify their technique as they learn to incorporate technique into their jazz. In the fall semester, students focus on across-the-floor exercises and the basic steps to creating a foundation for jazz. In the spring semester, students will incorporate the knowledge they have learned in the previous semester and apply it to learning a choreography for the recital at the end of the semester.

Jazz (Ages 9 to 12)

Jazz (Ages 9 to 12) is a beginning jazz class for ages 9 to 12 years old. Students will learn different jazz steps as well as strengthening and stretching techniques. Students will participate in basic choreography and tumbling. Students will continue to solidify their ballet technique as they learn to incorporate technique into their jazz foundation. In the fall semester, students focus on across-the-floor exercises and the basic steps to creating a foundation for jazz. They will also participate in learning basic choreography as well as learning to incorporate tap steps and terminology into their jazz repertoire. In the spring semester, students will incorporate the knowledge they have learned in the previous semester and apply it to learning a choreography for the recital at the end of the semester.

Teen Jazz (Ages 13 & Up)

Teen Jazz (Ages 13 & Up) is an intermediate jazz class for ages 13 years old and up. Students will learn different jazz steps as well as strengthening and stretching techniques. Students will participate in learning choreography and practicing the different jazz steps they have learned. Students will continue to solidify their ballet technique as they learn to incorporate technique into their jazz foundation. In the fall semester, students focus on across-the-floor exercises and the basic steps to creating a foundation for jazz. They will also participate in learning choreography and learning to incorporate different terminology and steps to start exploring freestyle. In the spring semester, students will incorporate the knowledge they have learned in the previous semester and apply it to learning a choreography for the recital at the end of the semester.

Adult Jazz

Adult Jazz classes are intermediate and advanced jazz classes for adults. Students will learn practice different jazz steps as well as strengthening and stretching techniques. Students will participate in learning complex choreography.  In the fall semester, students focus on strengthening exercises and complex choreography to strengthen their bodies and to hone their musicality. They will also incorporate different terminology and steps to explore freestyle. Students will learn choreographies in different styles of jazz to stretch their flexibility of the different genres of jazz. In the spring semester, students will incorporate the knowledge they have learned in the previous semester and apply it to learning a choreography for the recital at the end of the semester.
