Tap Classes

The different tap classes offered at Mo Holland Dance Studio

Preschool Tap

Ages 3-5 (Preschool) is a beginning ballet and tap introductory class for children ages 3 to 5 years old. Students in this class will tap along with rhythm exercises, learn basic ballet steps, and basic tumbling skills. Simple steps and basic rhythms are used to help develop fine motor skills and muscle strength start building a foundation for classic technique. In the fall semester, students will be focusing on learning the basic steps and rhythms. In the spring semester, students will use the prior semester’s knowledge to learn a choreography for the recital presented at the end of the semester.

Tap (Ages 5 to 8)

Ages 5-8 (Ballet & Tap) is a beginning ballet and tap class for children ages 5 to 8 years old. Students in this class will learn ballet positions and steps (i.e. first through fifth position), work at the ballet barre, basic tap techniques (i.e. shuffling, ball changes, etc.) and basic tumbling techniques (i.e. forward rolls). Students will have the opportunity to work and solidify the basics of their foundations in this class, further honing fine motor skills and muscle strength. Rhythm exercises will also be done to help students further develop their musicality. In the fall semester, students will be focusing on learning basic technique. In the spring semester, students will use the prior semester’s knowledge to learn a choreography for the recital presented at the end of the semester.

Tap (Ages 9 to 12)

Tap (Ages 9 to 12) is an intermediate tap class for ages 9 to 12 years old. Students will learn to incorporate different jazz steps as well as strengthening and stretching techniques into their tap repertoire. Students will participate in learning choreography and practicing the different tap steps and rhythms they have learned. In the fall semester, students focus on across-the-floor exercises and the steps to strengthening their tap foundation. They will also participate in learning choreography and learning to incorporate different terminology and steps to start exploring freestyle. In the spring semester, students will incorporate the knowledge they have learned in the previous semester and apply it to learning a choreography for the recital at the end of the semester.

Adult Tap

Adult Tap classes are intermediate and advanced tap classes for 13 year olds and up. Students will learn and practice tap steps and rhythms with some complex rhythms. Students will participate in learning complex choreography.  In the fall semester, students focus on strengthening exercises and complex choreography to strengthen their bodies and to hone their musicality. They will also incorporate different terminology and steps to explore freestyle. Students will learn choreographies with varying steps and rhythms to challenge their rhythmical abilities. In the spring semester, students will incorporate the knowledge they have learned in the previous semester and apply it to learning choreographies for the recital at the end of the semester.
